MITALI PERKINS VISIT
Young adult and children's author Mitali Perkins is visiting the Woburn Public Library next Wednesday, March 19 at 7pm.
Born in India and raised around the world, Ms. Perkins has a unique perspective on what it means to "live between cultures." She will share her experiences and talk about how they shaped her as a teen and an author.
The event is free and open to the public. Book signing and refreshments will take place immediately after the presentation.

WELCOMING DAVID YOO
I had the opportunity on Thursday to meet with author David Yoo, who wrote Girls for Breakfast. He had lots of great things to say about the young adult area and collection (a compliment at first meeting is always a good way to get things started), and was fun to talk to. He has a new book being published in September, so be on the lookout! In the meantime, get familiar with some of his work.

And remember back in December when I posted pictures of a certain minivan in our parking garage belonging to author Mark Peter Hughes? I had the chance to meet him about a month ago or so, too. (He's busily working on his next novel.)

We've got some great local authors taking advantage of our library -- and liking it! I've definitely enjoyed meeting them and am glad to see them here. Who knows? Maybe one of these days they'll give us a few words to post....

TWILIGHT MOVIE
I'm a few days late on this one, but nevertheless, Summit Entertainment has made announcements about Bella and Edward for the movie of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight -- and the film is listed as being in pre-production! This is great news for fans of the Twilight series, which has quickly become one of the most popular series in the past couple of years.
Congratulations Stephenie -- it's great to see such success from my alma mater!
And for fans of Meyer, she's publishing a new sci-fi book called The Host. It's due out in May, written for adults.

JOHN FEINSTEIN & SPORTS
I've been listening to NPR on my way to work in the mornings to help pass the time when all the songs on the radio and my iPod start sounding the same. However, since this is an irregular and recent thing, I was pleased when I heard John Feinstein give his reviews on the weekly sports. He's been on every week since 1988. Now, one may wonder why I was pleased to hear him -- but it's because one of my recent purchases in the YA department was his newest book Cover-up: Mystery at the Super Bowl, which joins a couple of his other sports mysteries -- Last Shot: a Final Four Mystery and Vanishing Act: Mystery at the US Open.

It's fun to have someone with such a sports pedigree writing these fun sports mysteries for teens -- if you're a sports fanatic, you can be assured that this author knows what he's writing about!

AUTHORMOBILE SIGHTING!


Batman has his batmobile -- it only makes sense that an author should have his authormobile. For the past two days as I've entered the library garage for work, I've seen Mark Peter Hughes' vehicle on the bottom floor. Could this mean we have an author working in our midst? I tend to believe it probably does! (And at such an appropriate time -- it's still National Novel Writing Month!)

Mark Peter Hughes is the author of such teen titles as Lemonade Mouth and I Am the Wallpaper (both of which we own at the library).

And don't forget -- we have one more write-in this afternoon at 4.30 and one on Thursday at the high school in the library after school.

LOCAL HORROR AUTHOR VISIT!
Amelia Atwater-Rhodes will be at the Framingham B&N one week from today to sign copies of her new book Wyvernhail, The Kiesha'ra: Volume Five. Check it out at 7.30 on October 12 at Barnes & Noble (508-628-5567).
We've got lots of her books at the library, too, so if you want to catch up on the series, check here first!

PULLMAN'S DARK MATERIALS
All kinds of news on Philip Pullman from Random House today~
* His Dark Materials trilogy is going to be published in a single volume. The omnibus will include every word from all three books, his chapter art, and new vignettes for each book. Read about it here.
* Pullman will be in NYC this November -- he'll do a Times Talks discussion (read about it here -- tics are sold out), and he'll be at the B&N in Union Square on November 1 at 7.00. If you're going to be in the area, check it out!
* A new Pullman book coming out -- his first new book in 5 years! Once Upon a Time in the North is the name of the book and takes place in that land of His Dark Materials. I couldn't possibly do justice to describing it, so I encourage you to take a peek at the press release that recently came out. Exciting stuff!

DEATH OF AN AUTHOR
