THE HOBBIT
According to ICv2 News, the movie The Hobbit is back on track with director Peter Jackson! For those of you who loved either reading or watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the making of this prequel holds great promise. Better reserve your reading copy now before everybody wants one!

SPACE OPERA
If you read the bookends on this blog with any regularity, you may remember my posting a few items about Elizabeth Moon's Vatta's War series, which I read with some great delight, anticipating each new book of the series. Feeling the need recently to read some fantastic space fiction and having already read through all of the published Vatta's War books, I turned to NoveList for some suggestions -- and there discovered Once a Hero (also by Elizabeth Moon) (the Metrowest Daily News had a picture of me reading this book on the library steps last week).
Read it, loved it, wanted more -- learned it was part of the Serrano Legacy series. I promptly requested the first three of that series in an omnibus edition (which arrived today -- woohoo) by which I learned the "real name" for this science fiction subgenre -- Space Opera! I didn't know it was space opera I like -- how good it is to have definition!
Other examples? Try Star Wars, Hitchhiker's Guide (a parody), Ender's Game, Serenity (aka Firefly) for starters.

STEPHENIE MEYER IN MASS
I believe I blogged this some time past, but the information has recently changed, and I wanted to make you aware of it. Stephenie Meyer will be at the Barnes and Noble at 98 Middlesex Pkwy, Burlington, MA 01803 on September 11 at 7pm.
Previously she was going to be at the Framingham B&N. I hope you can still go!

And don't forget that Eclipse comes out on August 7! Request it here.

Just a quick message on this beautiful Sunday afternoon -- RSS feeds through bloglines appear to have been restored.
And... have you finished the Harry Potter book yet? What did you think?
Today's stats on HP are: 1160 holds on first copy returned of 412 copies (and some copies are even available in some libraries -- check the catalog to see which ones!).

HARRY POTTER UPDATE
There are now 1374 holds on 356 copies of HP and the Deathly Hallows ordered and processed for the libraries.... It hits the shelves tomorrow!

HARRY POTTER READING
The final Harry Potter book hits the stores in less than two days -- have you ordered or reserved your copy yet? There are 1353 reserves in our library system on the Deathly Hallows -- and 275 copies being processed for release on Saturday.
